Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine how much hairdressers complained of fatigue syndrome and to determine what factors were related to their subjective fatigue symptom. For attaining the purpose, 270 hairdressers who served in the city of Jinchu were surveyed by fatigue-related questionnaire proposed by the Society for the Study of Industrial Fatigue under the Industrial Hygienics Association in Japan. The findings of this study were as follows:

1. The subjective fatigue symptom of which the hairdressers investigated complained most largely was eye strain with 78.1% of the first group, weariness all over the body with 78.1% of the first group, being keenly concerned even about trivial matter with 74.1% of the second group, and feeling stiff in the shoulders with 78.9% of the third group.

2. The group that the hairdressers complained of subjective fatigue symptom most frequently was the first one, followed by the second and the third in the order named, according to the general pattern.

3. For gender, female hairdressers complained of fatigue more in all groups.

4. As a result of making multiple regression analysis to find out what factors are concerned to the occurrence of fatigue, the variables that gave significant impact on fatigue appeared to be health condition, position and break(p<.001).

As seen above, many hairdressers complained of subjective fatigue symptom, and there was a need to prepare appropriate solution. Particularly, it seemed necessary to control working method or the amount of work, as women complained of physical fatigue more than men.
